Vision Point Alternatives

Current owners of Vision Point have 4 ways to go.  Vision Point users may stick with the current product as is.  This is probably fine for the next 4 or 5 years.  Even if problems occur with the 6.0 version of VFP the product may be recompiled in VFP 9 which appears to work fine in Vista.  Font problems are possible.  However, if you are a Vision Point user and do not own the source code it is time to buy it.  After August of 2007 it probably will not be available.

The second possibility is to upgrade to Sage PRO ERP.  This can be rather expensive for people used to the Vision Point price range.  Pro is a much more powerful product and a result more complex to use.  It is definitely the way to go if your accounting department makes use of a lot of special reports and the like.  If you just need an AP/AR transaction tracking system then PRO  may not be what you want.  Watch for specials.

Cougar Mountain (CMS) is another possibility.  This is a package that is staying up with the modern world.  The Denali version is written to handle SQL tables,  The Denali price level is only slightly higher the norm for Vision Point users.  The CMS product is similarly priced and also has an unlimited user version.

Peachtree provides another possibility.  This is also a regularly updated package with no current problems.  It is possible to import things like customer lists.  Pricing is a big advantage though most converters will find that at least multi-user complete is required and probably Quantum which is about a three thousand dollar product.  The big disadvantage is that the maximum number of users is 10 for Quantum and 5 for Complete.  The practical maximum for Complete is actually 2 0r 3.

For comparison purposes here are the customer screens for the various products.
