XP Folder Options

Control Panel in XP contains the Folder Options icon. This function lets you control how your files are displayed.

There are four tabs. The first lets you set the main folder conditions.

The next lets you check and uncheck specific file attributes. For instance you can hide or show file extensions. The file types window lets you see and define what the file extensions mean. These extensions are often defined by programs that you load. Normally, that doesn’t create a problem. However, if 2 or more programs use the same extension and register it with file types window, the last is what you see.

Offline files tells you if file switching is allowed.
